Over the past decade, the
New York Times has developed an unfortunate track record of publishing ridiculous piffle (not by its excellent science journalists) that seeks to accommodate science to religion -- never the reverse -- or to reconcile them as non-overlapping magisteria (Stephen J. Gould's unfortunate phrase) or as complementary ways of looking at the world.
So, I was delighted this morning to see
this article by Dennis Overbye , ostensibly a riff on the new Ron Howard / Tom Hanks movie
Angels and Demons, in which Overbye stands up for science and the scientific method, and gently but firmly maintains that scientific doubt and inquiry are not inferior to condescending, wizened, traditional "faith."
Worth reading.
